SUMMARY:"We Are Selma" Exhibition Opening
DESCRIPTION:We are Selma: The Selma Portrait Project by Kathryn Mayo\n\n\nAugust 24 – September 29\, 2017 \nDepartment of Art and Art History alumna Kathryn Mayo\, a native of Selma\, Alabama\, returns to her home territory to present an important exhibition: We Are Selma: The Selma Portrait Project. Mayo decided to return to Selma for her sabbatical leave from Cosumnes River College in Sacramento\, California\, where she serves as photography professor. She set up a makeshift studio in Selma and began creating large 11 x 14 inch wet plate collodion portraits of Selma residents and recording interviews with the participants. The exhibition beautifully reflects the sitter and their attachment to a city with such storied history. Mayo will present a lecture on her work on UA campus during the exhibition. The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art is supported by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Art and Art History. For further information\, contact the gallery at 348-1891.
