Artist Talks – “Learning from the Ancestors: Historical Influences on Contemporary Native Art”

Moundville Archaeological Park invites you to the closing reception of the exhibit “Learning from the Ancestors: Historical Influences on Contemporary Native Art” at the Jones Archaeological Museum. This come-and-go event will include artist talks and a reception with light hors d’oeuvres, celebrating the artists and voices behind the exhibition, including Jenny L. Davis, Brent Greenwood, Laretta Weaver, and Juanita Gardinski. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $6 for students and military, and free for children under 5. Native American visitors are admitted free with a tribal membership card, and UA Museums and Bryant Museum Circle of Champions members receive free admission with their membership.

Saturday in the Park: Traditional Tools and Weapons

Bill Skinner will be at Moundville Archaeological Park to demonstrate ancient technologies like stone tools, atlatls, and flint knapping. Visitors can observe and even try using some of the tools themselves in this interactive, hands-on program. The event offers a unique opportunity to learn about traditional Native tool and weapon-making techniques. Participation is open to all, though those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Bicentennial Porches and Parlors

A tour of some of the best historic houses in Greensboro, the seat of Hale County. Refreshments and home and garden tours will be showcased. The tour will start at Greensboro’s state landmark, Magnolia Grove. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
