The 4th Annual Black Belt Birding Festival

Black Belt Birding Festival

County:  |   Attraction Types:

The fourth annual BLACK BELT BIRDING FESTIVAL will take place on August 2, 3, & 4, 2024. Highlighting the birds, history, and heritage of Alabama’s Black Belt region, the festival offers a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of many species of birds in their natural environment.

The Festival kicks off the evening of Friday, August 2nd at 5pm with a partner expo that is free to the public at Project Horseshoe Farm 1202 Main Street / Greensboro—a regional nonprofit focused on community health – with live music by Blues artists Debbie Bond and Radiator Rick. Guided field trips begin Saturday morning across Dallas, Hale, Perry, and Sumter counties, including birding from the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma and from a 100 ft birding tower designed by Auburn University’s Rural Studio at Perry Lakes Park near Marion. Swallow-tailed and Mississippi Kites will amaze visitors at the Joe Farm, a 4th generation Black-owned cattle ranch. Event descriptions can be found on our website!
We hope you will join us for an unforgettable weekend in the beautiful western Black Belt region of Alabama, where opportunities to experience, learn, and bird at historic sites, working farms, and ongoing prairies restorations abound – for birders of all ages and abilities!
