Join us for the WWII Aliceville POW Camp Reenactment! The festivities begin with a WWII movie at the Aliceville Entertainment Complex at 7pm on Friday. At 9:30 am on Saturday, the reenactors will arrive at the former site of the Aliceville Frisco depot at the railroad crossing on 3rd Avenue NW and commence the march along AL Hwy 17 to the site of the original camp, now the Aliceville Industrial Park as spectators look on.  After a welcoming ceremony at 10:00, the reenactors will proceed to the mock camp site along Memorial Parkway at the Broad Street intersection, where they will engage in a variety of activities depicting life at the camp.

At 6pm Saturday there will be a USO Dinner Dance at the Aliceville City Hall featuring swing music by the Ed Jones Orchestra for listening and dancing and dinner by local caterers. 1940s era clothing encouraged, but not required. Admission $15 – tickets available online or at the Aliceville Museum. On Sunday reenactors will present more camp-life scenarios.

Saturday, May 14, 2022

9:30am-10:00am – POW march from 3rd Ave NW railroad crossing along Highway 17 South to original camp site @ Aliceville Industrial Park.

10:00am –  Official Welcome – Event Kick-off – Historic Marker, Aliceville Industrial Park, Highway 17 South

10:30am-5:00pm – Reenactment Camp Site Memorial Parkway & Broad. Watch Various scenarios of POW activities. Lunch Break noon-1:00pm.

6:00pm-10:00pm – USO Dinner Dance – Aliceville City Hall, 419 Memorial Parkway NE, Aliceville – Admission $15 per person.

Historic Pickens County History Tour and Paranormal Investigation

The Southern Ghost Girls Tours invite everyone to attend their exclusive tour and paranormal investigation of the Famous Pickens County Courthouse known for its Lighting Portrait of Henry Wells’s Face in the Window. Experience first hand the incredible stories as you get to take part in this special tour and Paranormal Investigation. The first of its kind where you will get to be an active participant as you explore the Courthouse and search for answers of decades old paranormal activity and lore. Mayor Craig Patterson of Gordo, AL Will tell the history of the place and events. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to the historical preservation association for preservation of the Pickens County Courthouse.

Pickens County 200 Bicentennial Festival Celebration

At this event, we will present and Celebrate the history of the Pickens County Rosenwald Schools and the history of Quilting. We will feature “Stories around the Quilt Frame” where four different aspects of quilting will be highlighted. We will also feature the “Grand Opening of “The Historic Pickensville Rosenwald School Museum”. There will be food, music, walking history tours of the grounds and a “Quilt Walk” displaying an array of Quilts”.
